Send us a text

In this episode of the Playful Connection Podcast, Eddie Shin will share four  simple and practical tips on how to teach children and teens to develop intrinsic motivation and how doing so will boost your relationship with them.

1. Praise Effort, Not Outcome
2. Give Meaningful Choices
3. Encourage Reflection Over Validation
4. Model Passion and Curiosity

Teaching intrinsic motivation is like helping your child plant a garden inside their heart. At first, you may provide the tools, water, and sunlight—but over time, they learn to tend their own garden. They begin to notice what helps them grow, where their strengths are, and how to bounce back when something doesn’t bloom. And just like any shared garden, the act of tending it together—without taking control—deepens the connection between you. You both learn to trust the process, enjoy the growth, and find meaning in the journey.
